BS Motorsports brings home a New Track Record ! !

And so you are asking yourself “who/what is BS Motorsports??  Well, the B S stands for what most likely first came to your mind, but in “polite” circles it stands for Bud & Steve Motorsports.

The brief history is:  In May of 2005 Bud & Dixie Harris and Steve and Lora Raeder went on a car-race trip.  While the boys were out on the track “playing”, the girls decided they should start their own race team called BS Racing.  Bud and Steve saw that as a free kitchen pass, so quickly went to work creating the corporation.  Unfortunately when they filed to create the corporation, it was determined BS Racing already existed, so BS Motorsports came into being.

So in the fall of 2005 Bud and Steve went about putting together a race team and plans to “travel the circuit”.  Given that racing in the Northwest has a short (and often rainy) season, they decided to set-up a base operation in Phoenix.  Of course it certainly helped that Bud’s old racing partner David Hurley just happened to live in Phoenix as well J

With a new 45-foot trailer (for hauling two cars) and a one-ton Duramax Diesel they set-off on their journey.  The first races were at Thunderhill, and then on to Phoenix where they race once a month at Firebird (three separate tracks) or Phoenix International.  The competition has been very good as there are about a dozen Corvette Racers that we complete with every month.

Ah, but back to the real story.  For the February trip we decided to attend the All Corvette event at Spring Mountain Race Track in Pahrump Nevada.  Some of you may recognize this as the Corvette Driving School about fifty miles south-west of Las Vegas.  What you may not know is the original track of 2.2 miles has been expanded to 3.1 miles.  Yes, all 18 corners of new pavement and highly technical design, i.e, increasing/decreasing radius, off camber, you name-it, it is there.

So Bud, Steve, and David make the journey and were excited to see 80-plus Corvettes.  It’s the only high-speed track event we’ve ever been to where the competitors were all Corvettes, from mid-years to a half-dozen brand new C-6 Z06’s.  Each run group received four track sessions per day, so there was plenty of track time for everyone.  Spring Mountain also provided a BBQ Steak dinner Saturday night.

Ok, I guess I have to get to the real point of this story.  Steve and David had been to Spring Mountain in November and there had been some “discussion” as to who had been the fastest.  Steve had the fastest official time, but David claimed that he had waited for Steve (they were filming each other on the track), and therefore did not run a competitive time.  So this weekend was to settle the score.

Mr. Raeder, in just his third year of high-speed Time Trials, set the Corvette Track record.  Yes, he beat David straight-up, as well as all the other Corvettes at the event, too include a dozen C5 Z06’s and at least a half dozen C6 Z06’s.  So it was another great outing for the BS Mortorsport boys as they “brought home the gold” for Tacoma Corvettes.  Be sure to check-out Steve’s photo at Springmountainmotorsports.com
